Cancer Screening

Smears – Appointments for smears should be made with the practice nurses. You will be called for a smear from the age of 25 to 49 every 3 years and from 50 to 64 every 5 years. If you are over the age of 65 you will only be called if either you have not had a smear since the age of 50 or have had a recent abnormal result.

Bowel Cancer – All men and women aged 60-74 years are invited to carry out a faecal occult blood (FOB) test. Every 2 years they are sent a home test kit with a set of instructions.

Breast Screening – All women aged between 50-70 years are automatically invited for breast cancer screening with an x-ray test called a mammogram.

All patients falling in the above category are strongly encouraged to have these Free NHS funded screening tests. This aides early diagnosis and treatment. Contact us if you need further advice.
